Many fiction books have come in the recent years, but as they say "old is gold". That is particularly one of the reasons I find "The Fountainhead" to be the best fiction book ever written. The cast of the book is as impeccable as the storyline. One can easily identify himself with the prominent characters of the book. Howard Roark, the idealist, the epitome of perfection. A student of architecture who gets expelled from college and goes on to make his own road; someone who personifies the ideal man, and a person many of us unintentionally aspire to be. He is fascinated by creativity, and loves the buildings he designs. He is against the second hand opinions of people around him and chooses to believe what he feels is right. He follows a very unconventional path to achieve the things he wants, at his own terms; and eventually gets it, alongwith the woman of his dreams.Then there is Dominique Francon, the daughter of a prominent architect, Guy Francon. Someone who lives in a world full of lies and hates every moment of it. Who has all the facilities in the world but still expects people to have the same drive for perfection that she possesses, and often ends up being disappointed. Soon, she begins to enjoy this imperfection and amuses herself thinking of all the wrong that exists in this world. When she meets Roark, she finds the perfect man, someone who makes her feel that all is not lost, that there is still hope in this world. She chases him like a woman posessed, all the while trying her level best to avoid him. She even marries another man in an effort to restrict herself, but eventually submits to Roark.
Peter Keating, Howard Roark's classsmate and someone who goes on to become one of the most prominent architects of his generation, sans any ethics or moral values. He reaches the heights he has always dreamed of, but still hates every moment of it. He deploys methods of deceit and treachery to get everything he wanted from life, but ends up as a failure, someone who can't look at himself in the mirror; even though he has something most people would give their right arm to achieve.
Ellsworth M. Toohey, the perfect diplomat. The person who can convince you to say it is night with the sun blinding your eyes. Somebody who seems deemed to succeed in the world presented by the novelist, Ayn Rand. He is the one who makes or breaks the opinions of the society, and meets in a head-on collision with Howard, for he believes that people like Howard are a threat to his own being. He tries his level best to break Roark, but fails miserably against his determination .

The Fountainhead is certainly a classic, one that is to be cherished for a long time to come. I did not have much trouble to purchase this book, just needed to log on to the internet and search for the book at various websites that are dedicated to providing a good collection of books. There may be much better books in the years to come, but The Fountainhead will continue to stand the test of time.
